About me

Welcome to Lori Hawkins, CDRE®

I earned my BS in Accounting from the University of North at Charlotte but have been a licensed Realtor® in North & South Carolina since 2017. After going through a divorce myself, I understood that there was a need for a Realtor to better understand the divorce process and to not only provide real estate experience but to have expertise on how real estate relates to selling a property while going through a divorce. Divorce listings are very different from traditional real estate listings where everyone is typically in agreement. I began my search to learn about divorce real estate and found the Ilumni Institute in California. I was accepted into the Iumni's program to be trained as a Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE®) in 2021. After completing 40 hours of live classroom training, passing a final exam, and doing a 6 month mentoring program with a family law attorney, I received my certification as a CDRE. I was invited to the Master Club program with Ilumni and still today, I must attend weekly, 1 hour classes to remain a member. As a CDRE, I am a neutral third party and my job is to make sure that court orders are carried out while representing both parties equally. I ensure that everyone’s interests are protected and everyone is treated fairly. I am specialized in mid to high conflict divorce transactions. I believe that all property owners selling a home during a divorce needs to be represented by a CDRE. It really does make that much of a difference in the transaction. To continue to grow as a CDRE and expand my expertise within the divorce field, in August, 2024, I attended Collaborative Divorce training sessions through IACP and now can act as an Allied Professional with collaborative training working with Collaborative Divorce Attorneys and their clients. I am passionate about what I do and the difference I can make. Please feel free to give me a call and we can discuss how working with a CDRE can make a difference and how I can help you.

Unique Value of a CDRE in Divorce Transactions

Selling a home is always a significant event, but the emotional and logistical complexities increase exponentially during a divorce. A Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE) brings unique advantages to these situations, ensuring a smoother process for both parties involved. Here’s how a CDRE provides exceptional value:

Third-Party Neutrality

As a CDRE, my primary role is to act as a neutral party. I adhere strictly to court orders, ensuring that both individuals feel their interests are represented. By focusing solely on the sell side, I eliminate potential biases, which fosters a more equitable environment for both sellers.

Tailored Listing Process

The listing process during a divorce differs significantly from traditional real estate transactions. Often, communication between the parties is strained or nonexistent. I employ specialized systems and procedures designed specifically for these situations, allowing us to move forward efficiently while minimizing tension.

Consistent Communication

Effective communication is crucial in high-stress situations. I ensure both parties are consistently updated and feel heard throughout the selling process. My unique approach to communication reduces stress and helps to avoid misunderstandings, providing reassurance to both sellers.

Collaboration with Attorneys

I prioritize maintaining clear lines of communication with both parties’ attorneys. By updating them at five key points during the transaction, I streamline the process and help prevent costly delays, ultimately benefiting all parties involved.

Expertise in High-Conflict Divorces

My training specifically equips me to handle mid to high-conflict divorce situations. I utilize conflict mitigation strategies and effective language to ease tensions. In particularly challenging cases, my skills as a CDRE truly shine, making a substantial difference in the experience of both sellers.

Network of Trusted Professionals

Divorce can create financial strain, complicating necessary home repairs before sale. My established network of professionals understands the nuances of divorce transactions and is prepared to work collaboratively. This ensures that necessary repairs are completed efficiently and in a way that respects both parties’ needs.

Specialized Closing Procedures

Closing a transaction in a divorce scenario often requires a different approach. I work exclusively with a select group of real estate law firms that are familiar with these complexities. They understand the nuances of divorce-related closings, ensuring a smoother process and addressing unique requests without question. Additionally, I manage proceeds disbursement carefully to avoid any disputes.

In Conclusion

The role of a CDRE extends far beyond that of a typical real estate agent. My specialized training, focus on neutrality, and commitment to communication and collaboration make me an invaluable asset in the divorce process, ultimately leading to a more streamlined and less stressful experience for both parties.

A Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE) is a neutral 3rd party that has systems & procedures in place that allows the process of selling your home to have  less conflict and be less stressful. I become the liaison between the spouses and to their attorneys with any of the real estate related issues. I make sure court orders are carried out and each party's interest is protected.

What do you specialize in?

As a Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE), I specialize in mid to high conflict divorce cases. Every case is unique but each is handled with the same protocol. All parties involved are kept well informed from the beginning of the process until we close.

Can a traditional realtor sell a house during a divorce?

Yes, but.....what if things turn bad and you need the realtor to testify in court? As a Certified Divorce Real Estate Expert (CDRE), I am trained to testify & produce reports that educate the court and help to resolve the issues.

Will you speak with my attorneys?

Yes. There are six key times I will communicate with both attorneys during the selling process. This helps to keep them informed but saves you time and money. I will communicate more often if the situation is needed.

Where are you licensed?

I have my NC and SC Real Estate Licenses. I accept cases within a 1 hour radius of Charlotte but am flexible if I need to go outside this area.

Are you Collaboratively Trained?

Yes, I did go through the collaborative training in August 2024 so that I could better serve clients using the collaborative divorce process. I work with Collaborative Divorce Attorneys frequently.

I provide 3 main services to the family law community 1)Education 2) Being a Resource 3) Divorce Listings. I would love to discuss each of these in more depth with you.
